Windows 10 for Phones

A new Windows 10 for Phones or Windows Phone 10 was released yesterday as a preview version for developers or people keen to know a bit more about it, the name: Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones.

If you are reading this page from your Windows Phone then it can be downloaded from here and it is available at the moment for the following Nokia phones: Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 730 and Lumia 830.

The requirements

  • Have one of the supported models (mentioned above)
  • 8 GB of storage space available
  • Windows Phone 8.1 already installed

    Some of the new features in Windows 10 for phones

  • The apps list now supports having groups (similar to the ability of creating folders at the home screen but now in the apps list)
  • There are more quick actions from the notification centre
  • The notifications are interactive and it is possible to do things as reply texts from the notification centre
  • Microsoft Office: has been improved to show images, links and comments and also to create or edit documents
  • Microsoft Office: the Microsoft Word for PCs top ribbon to change the font size, style and colour is now available for phone users.
  • Microsoft Office: it is now possible to see PowerPoint presentation, some 3D effects, and actually present them wirelessly on a screen.
  • Microsoft Office: in Mail or Outlook a feature to drag to the left to delete and drag to the right to flag has been added. Support for rich text (similar to the features available in Word) so it is possible to format it.
  • Calendar: has been changed to show a style more similar to the PC version
  • Cortana can remember places

    It is important to be aware that this Technical Preview version won't be available in China and that other models might be supported in the near future
